Sometimes you need someone to tell you YES this IS possible to do. Sometimes you need someone to give you a vision for what your life can be and what you can accomplish on your own. Unfortunately, sometimes we don’t realize any of this until some sort of crisis hits.
Well, here I am. You never understand a chronic illness until you have one, and after 6ish years of remission I had forgotten the havoc it wreaks on everyday life.
After my last visit with my amazing doctor who has been with me since the beginning of this disease – she encouraged me to take control of this myself. She has never been one to simply write prescriptions to manage symptoms and carry on, she’s always educated me on HS and it root of it all as she learned more and pioneered the medical field with her research of HS.
I went home and immediately started researching and unbeknown do me the gem was also doing some research of his own.
He came across a book a few times with great reviews and I had also seen some blog posts on it, so the next day we ordered it.
While waiting for it to arrive a friend of mine at work introduced me to FMTV.com (Food Matters TV) an amazing network of everything you could ever want on health, happiness, and sustained life. I watched endless inspirational documentaries about people who cured their own diseases through juicing, raw foods, paleo, and other diets. They all gave me hope of controlling this and putting it back into remission for good. I’m a huge fan of the documentaries “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead” and “Super Juice Me”
“autoimmune disease is directly linked to diet and lifestyle” including interactions between your genes and your environment.
I was immediately hooked on this book I’m not even 1/4 of the way through and I have learned so much!
While hidradenitis suppurativa isn’t 100% a confirmed auto immune disease it is believed to have autoimmune origins, so I am going to give this a shot starting next week.
It’s giving me hope and getting me excited for a better and more knowledgable journey. I’m really excited to start this blog series on my journey with HS and my journey of healing.
I am in the process of revamping my entire understanding and relationship with food. My next post will be an overview/discussion of the Paleo Approach/Protocol I will be following for 30-60 days before the reintroduction phase.
Live happy, be healthy,
